Dom was just thinking maybe it's a baby kingfish?

We caught to of them and they didnt last to long in the bait tank we were pretty sure they were yakkas, they were about 10cm long mayb a tad smaller.

could be a barcheek trevally Carangoides plagiotaenia although quite unusual to find this far south.. though the fin structure and position of the lateral line is quite similar.

heres a few links to compare the pic

and

jeez domza youve been catching some unusual species of late!

cheers pk

id call it for a radioactive trev, has the same shaped head and facial features

the yellow comes from the dioxins in the harbour :tease:

CFD

MMMMMMM!!!! full of dioxin goodness!

after looking closer, it does look like it has the tail scoots of a trev

Maybe a Sand Trevally ? ? ?, not long like a Scad (Finney,Yellow Tail, Big Eye)

Or maybe just a Silver Trevally with its colors lit up, juvenile maybe as often a juvenile has different colors than a Adult... could not gauge the size of the fish

Do you still have the fish,be great to get a positive ID on it.

Domza go to http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/specomm.htm

Type "Scad" into "Search this Site"

Hope this helps.

thanks mate, i did a word search on 'scad' and it turns out they are related to the yakka

i think the fish we caught was a 'bigeye scad' . it has the same body except for the head?

notice the two little spikes that come behind the bottom fins, i have marked the two out below

hey netic..

that looks allot like a lil tailor , which are called kings and kings are called yellow tail in other parts of the world... crazy dudes , glad i don't have an accent..te hee..

i've been calling the fish in question yakkavallies for years and they are common here around autumn ..good to finally know what they are.. and i don't reccomend them as an attractive live bait..not even tailor seem to want to eat em..
