Rumour has it he catches more squid as well hehe

I am only too happy to relinquish the squidding to Tony. The only problem today was that I had to catch them all. If I had waited for him to fill the bait tank, we would have only caught a couple of sweep. This doesn't happen too often with Tony so I got to rub it in while I can :1prop:

Tony did get a big cuttlefish but these guys squirt ink everywhere and the ink is hard to get off. They are ugly bastards the big cuttles but great bait.I am still getting the ink stains out!!! Cheers Kelvin

Great report Kelvin ,you are a great bloke to be taking

and showing these guys what and where to do it!!

Theres something great about putting people onto beautiful

fish in sydney harbour because you can easilly spend your

life catching bream/flatties etc without ever landing a king/jew!

We are very lucky to have such a diverse range of fish to target!

Cheers again

That comes from MANY MANY hours of working out sounders!!!!! You're not too bad yourself Tony with sounders. I must say however, my sounders are better than yours so it makes things clearer. Having 4 different frequencies makes it too easy. We would have caught a few more if someone caught some BAIT.

For the marlin, you can have all the blues, I'll have the stripes. Don't want a bad back. Can't wait for Perth!!! Cheers Kelvin

I had a tough day with bait only managed one squid a one cuddle fish.

i guess i should copy someone and soak my jigs in egimax OVERNIGHT.

perth is T-5weeks! samspon here we come!

You are too right. He is outfishing me all the time!!! Cheers Kelvin

the number of fish caught on the day doesnt matter..

a funny story i tell is when we were downrigging middle harbour a few months ago (yes in winter)

we were looking at the sounder and kelvin spotted a fish right at the bottom.

he jumped to the downrigger adjusted the depth and looked at the rod saying "take it! take it!" next thing you know the rod buckled..

it might not sound too much in summer but im talking about a windy winter day with very few fish around.

the fish was a loner and it was massive!

i dont think we saw anything else on the sounder that day!

Kelvin never falls asleep! i get to sleep a fair bit though :1prop: unless someone hits a sunfish doing 25knots

every now and then!

Tony you get to drive the boat next time!!! Those under water speed humps are a nightmare. Lucky we didn't sink. Those sunfish have a reputation of sinking boats.

Winter is great. Get the kings offshore/inshore/jigging/downrigging/livebaiting/stripbaiting.......can't wait for the cold weather again....and NO SUNFISH to run over. Cheers Kelvin

Fishing isn't just about catching fish. It is the company that you keep and the laughs. It is about sharing ideas and even having friendly arguments which makes it all the more enjoyable. Of course it is much better when the fish are in a co operative mood.

I don't mind sharing my ideas to those I trust. My mates are very discreet and are very straight. They also bring some top tucker. This is one area where I am hopless. They are a great bunch of blokes.

As you can see there are still a lot of good fish left in Sydney! We do live in a great city. Cheers Kelvin

Kelvin, judging by the response to this thread, please keep the reports coming !!

At least one a week anyway. Good read.

:1prop:

Stylo, these last couple of reports have stirred up a hornet's nest!!!

Whenever I put in a report there are both positive and negative outcomes. It is mostly positive but there is ALWAYS a dark undercurrent out there. Fishing for me is purely for enjoyment. I love going out on the water. fiddling with tackle , exploring new gadgets and catching fish is just a bonus. My fishing mates all share the same passion.

Often putting in a report ruffles up some feathers especially when we fish inshore. We get everything from disbelief to envy. I normally don't let on what we are up to when I am fishing. That is only natural. I talk freely to those who have earnt my trust but that is difficult to do in an open forum like this.

There are a large number of excellent fishos who NEVER put in a report. These guys just go about their business. I don't put myself in these guy's league when it comes to fishing but I am trying!

I have only posted these reports to openly celebrate my friend Tony's first jew and to thank Oz and Steve publicly. If there are other special occasions then I will put in another report. Cheers Kelvin

You are so right Mark about the fishing. I really don't think Phil did anything positive for the boating public. Better off dealing with reputable people like Huett marine. My mate Andrew has nothing but positive words about his new boat and evinrude etec. CHeers Kelvin

Dan, we have been getting kings on almost anything we throw at them. In the last month or so we have been getting them on the surface and down deep on plastics, metals..etc. Often see acres of kings offshore chopping up the surface. They are too easy when they are like this....I am not complaining!!!

Been working on my flathead technique. Used to chase them constantly on live bait while living in swansea. THere are some big flathead there and good kings as well but catching flathead on lures is tough...for me atleast. So far everytime we go flathead spinning, I get more kings than flathead!!

I get a strike and think it is a flathead only to hear the drag scream from a run from a king. CHeeses you off BIG time!!! Even went fishing with a mate who is a charter operator specifically to catch flathead on lures. He gets all the flathead and I only manage to hook up kings. So far my flathead tally on lures is pathetic.

My mate Jack ( wacko ) who is a bream specialist is going to show me how it is REALLY done! I am trying to wean him off spiderline gear that he uses for bream. He is slowly coming around. Got him jigging up kings big time and he is now a jigging addict like the rest of us.

I think I have to go somewhere where there are NO kings to get those flathead on lures. Somewhere like lake illawarra where the flathead are thick..and no kings.

I do get the occasional flathead while fishing for kings/jews but they don't count! Cheers Kelvin

I know jack, we started bream spinning around the same time back in the day when sliders were all the talk of bream spinning, I use to compete against him regularly. I had a good chat with him recently out at freddys, the main topics being jews and jigging, and he mentioned you.

Most people experience the complete opposite, they are targeting bream or jews and all they can manage is flathead. Have you ever considered the parramatta river? Thats one location that produces tiem and time again where you are most certain not to come across any kingies.

If your still up for a flattie bash, let me know..

DAN

I should have tagged some of the fish I release :biggrin2: . The day before I had a really good jewie bite happening with the squid given to me by oz and steve. I kept a couple of jews and released the rest. One of the jewies was about the same size that Tony caught. Could be the same fish???

I was joking to both Tony and Sean that there was atleast one good jewie in sydney harbour as I released him the day before!!! I guess we'll never know if it was the same fish. I know there are some more around as we could see them. Hopfully they will be in a co operative mood. CHeers Kelvin

The jewie bite has been going real strong for the last 2 months both in the harbour and in the hawkesbury/pittwater. I think the lack of commercial fishing has had a very positive effect in the harbour. There are bait schools everywhere. I have never seen so much bait as I have seen in the last few months. This increase in bait will only bring on the predators.

I cut my teeth on jewies when I was younger. It was almost an obsession for a while . There is so much BS surrounding jewies it is unbelieveable. Most myths are postulated by those who don't catch much but have large mouths or by those who tell porkies to keep their secrets safe. Slowly but surely I started to figure them out.

For those old enough, some of the best jewie fishing was to be had in the old sewer outlets. They are still one of my favourite fish and I target them when the conditions suit.I don't have the patience to target them when they are shut down or wait for passing fish to come around well known spots.

As you know unlike kings, jewies are very selective in their feeding times but any good jewie fisherman knows when they will come on the bite. When they do, the flood gates open and we get very good numbers of fish. Some people may be surprised by the numbers of jewies available. The jewie "mafia" are a very tight lipped group. I hope my membership isn't revoked when they read these reports!

Compared to some of the "specialist" jewie fisherman , I am just a bunny. I only go for them when they are easy to catch and ALWAYS during daylight hours. Some of the specialists can almost predict the size of the fish they will get before they even go out fishing. They put in HUGE hours on the water. The new Local knowledge DVD shed a bit of light into jewie fishing that is very insightful espcially if you are new to jews.

By the way, the harbour has been firing all winter. We even had kings chopping on the surface in mid august and jewies taking baits regularly in the colder months as they always do!!.

I thought the kings were the by catch last sunday. Only 1 bait was set specifically for kings as the jewies were everywhere. Unfortunately the kings got to the baits before the jews could....not complaining too much however! Cheers kelvin

You two are crazy. It isn't egimax but GLOMAX!!!!! :074::074::074: Cheers Kelvin
