Ross Hunter
Raiders, Firstly sorry about the lack of fish last Sunday on the Raiders day..It was a s...tty day with a strong northerly and strong current to the south, not great conditions and not conducive to good cubing, but remember that tuna fishing is a fickle business and nothing is ever guaranteed, especially of late. Glenn worked hard for the crew that were locked into a tuna day and would settle for nothing less after 3 re-runs because of bad weather. The tuna have been reasonable but certainly not brilliant, nothing like last season Dr Mark Josephs is an excellent angler as well as a dedicated fly fisherman( he caught a 48kg tuna on fly on Billfisher last season) he fished with Glenn last week and scored a heap of hook ups including a spool job on the Shimano Saltiga loaded with 80lb braid. Johnny Boo and the Human Winch, both Raiders, fished the next day and nailed some nice tuna on Billfisher. Billfisher has scored some good fish up to 45 kg and on Broady we have struggled with catches of albacore small makos and a blue sharks. We have been jigging a heap of kings on days when the weather did not suit going wide. The fish will get better I feel in the next month or so. But will defiantly be going out again, just can't help it Good speaking to you this morning Ross, looking forward to some good snapper action this weekend.. alasdair
Gamerod
To Alasdair hang in there brother. I fish many times and a reel is not turned. I have spent more money and time then you would believe. Grand Slam of marlin. 22 marlin in 3 days not including the ones dropped. 280kg blue marlin hooked of Sydney. 7 yellow fin in one day all over 65kg. To many yellow fin 35kg to 60kg to remember. What is your boat name? Ross Gday Ross. It was made in 1991 and it was used as a volunteer coast guard boat. I purchased it 3rd hand from a fellow who only used it every christmas at crowdy head. I paid $22000 for it 3 yrs ago and it has twin 90 hp long shaft mercurys on it. The motors only had 170hrs on them when i bought the boat and now has 400hrs. It is a cuddy cabin. I have added live bait tanks outriggers and a new sounder. It is set up quite nicely for fishing. I called it Dinnerbell. I can take it wide or take the wife and kids out on the river. I absolutely love it. I have attached a couple of pics of her. Great to hear from someone who knows how great these boats are. Thanks Adam. Adam, I cannot recognise the boat from the photo, however that model were amongst the best performing boats that we built from that era . Most interested on the reply.A great boat and I have many wonderful memories of fish caught from her. Here are a couple of photos of my 76 model Billfisher taken at Hat Head in '77. Ross I bought it from a dealer, Ross. It looks like it might have been moored at some stage as it has antifouling and came with full covers. I took it to Dave Wallis at Milperra for some welding once and he remembered it. He used to work for Marlin and he was the one who made the hardtop! It's an 1981 model and must have done enough miles to circumnavigate the World by now. It's been to the Shelf off Bermagui, through the bars of South West Rocks to legendary spots like Fish Rock, and off Sydney every other weekend to spots like the Peak, Plonk Hole and the Hump. PS, did you sell the moulds to another company? I have seen another boat at Brightons Fisherman's Club that looks identical with regard to hull shape but carries the 'Sportsmancraft' brand. Some info on the model would be interesting. How long did it run for? Were there any design changes on the way? Weren't they moulded in Melbourne and just fitted out by Marlin in Sydney? Billfisher, Originally the first dozen or so were built by Fallshaws in Melbourne We then built the balance at Greenacre in Sydney They were layed up by Ron and Arthur Robertson (the founders of the Cresta boats) we built around 150 boats and sold the moulds when we realised that fibre glass and alluminium in the one factory simply was not compatable. We never changed the design but did change the stringer and floor system. Glad you enjoy your boat We built the Billfisher from '76 (it won Fisherman's boat of the year to probably 84) Ross

Mine doesn't have a traditional wooden stringer system, but some foam encapsulated with glass longitudinal ribs.

Mate It's along time ago but we replaced the bow floor section with ply and added stringers in there. Maybe from '82 on it made a more slid bow section and was easy to do.
