Home Made Electric Reel

This is my home made electric reel which was used on Saturday for browns bottom bash.

The motor and gearbox is from an electric golf cart. It spins at about 2500 rpm and out the gearbox it spins at about 60rpm which is perfect for driving the reel.

The reel is an alvey snapper real.

The rod is a cheap old roller tip.

The base and bits and pieces are made from stuff I had lying around and its all fully welded for ridgidness.

Its spooled with 800m of 130lb braid which filled to the brim but after the first use it tightly packed the line back on and in reality it could handle up to 1200m of 130lb braid.

As for its performance you can see on fISHING rEPORTS OF THE GEMMIES AND COD CAGHT ON SATURDAY AT BROWNS.

It handled 2 gemmies and 1 cod in one drop. The motor did not slow down at all and the current draw is not over 7 amps.

The reels spindle did heat up due to the drag which was tight.

the total weight of the fish on that drop was 8kg gemmie, 5kg gemmie and 5kg cod total 18kg and about 6mins to bring up.

Motor and gearbox was baught on blah blah poop for $105 and $20 of steel, The rest was around the garage.
