Fishing Ban For Clifton Gardens

Hi everyone. Here's some correspondence from Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW.

Hi all,

We are getting done (big time) in the poll asking if fishing should be banned at Clifton Gardens wharf ! This is potentially going to spread to other wharfs in Sydney Harbour then other wharves in NSW!!

The recent workshop at Canada Bay clearly indicated they want to piss fishers off out of their area!

Mal is doing a great job to prevent this so we need help - that means numbers!

Please circulate - we need fishers support!!! - BIG TIME!!

p.s make sure to vote NO

This was front page news on the Mosman Daily last week. It's not just a ban on the wharf but the proposal is to completely ban ALL fishing in Chowder Bay. Be it from the wharf, beach, rocks or boat. Aparently someone in the Council has put up this proposal because of the "rich biodiversity" & the numbers of native animals being killed by irresponsible fishermen & their waste. It seems sustainable fishing is not possible in this area & Mosman has "so many other options open to people wanting to fish"...... The article was accompanied by a photo of a woman & her young daughter with a dead seagull with fishing line tangled around both it's feet that they found at Clifton. Very emotive stuff.

What a load of bollocks. This is yet another push to rid the harbour of fishing. A mini version of Clover Moores proposal to create a green zone exluding all fishing from the Hawkesbury to past Port Hacking.

This is totally absurd. People are confusing the litter left at the wharf (which is a problem) with the affect fishing has on the local aquatic life (which I have no idea if it is a problem, just like 99% of people in Mosman).

Where do we vote? Can someone post a link please? Couldn't find anything on the mosman daily site

Fact of the matter being though guys some people down at chowder bay do leave a hell of alot of spent line and tackle lying around.. i completely disagree with the ban but it's what people will push for if people dont start cleaning up after themselves!! so please guys if you see someone just throwing crap around say something it's worth giving some bloke the shits for being asked to put his rubbish in the bin then to have to deal with these stupid proposals from councils constantly... we get victimised daily for everything were doing while fishing were cruel when we release a fish after a hard fought fight were even worse when we catch one for the table the last thing we need is being associated with rubbish left all over the shop!!

These same people have already made themselves known by announcing that the marine environment is steadily improving all the time.... but it's the same old story a spark can start a fire and the problem is there are far more people living in these types of coastal areas who don't really care about fishing or fishermen at all than there are fishermen, either living in the area or visiting the area and spending lots of money for the purpose of being able to go out in the fresh air with their friends and family as often as they get the chance to be able to just relax and fish ....

Cheers

exactly. also, pick up other peoples' rubbish yeah it sucks that they leave it but you can either leave the place untidy or leave it better than when you got there and only one of those is going to help your chances of fishing in the long run.
