Malabar Boat Ramp?

I lauched there yesterday.

The lifesavers launch a big surf cat there, but other than that it is almost exclusively used by smaller tinnys in good weather. It's open to the ocean and can cop a fair bit of swell at times. I suppose its a little like the longreef ramp, maybe a little more protected but lacks the beach to run your boat up onto. The guys who seem to do best there have 12 foot tinnys with smaller outboards and wheels on the transom. They pull the boats up them retrieve off the ramp.

I love it but wouldn't launch there if:

(a) your boat is fibreglass

(B) your boat is bigger than 14-15 feet

© you will cry if you put a scratch or ding in your tinny...

(d) you don't have a mate to help with the retrieval

(e) it concerns you if a wave washes around the back wheels of your car...

Using Malabar ramp is about the only time I wish my 420 dory was smaller rather than bigger!!

Thanx for that.... i went to look at the ramp last friday,,,,It would be a good ramp if they spent a bit of money on it,,,, it seems to have a huge drop off at the end of the ramp only about 3 metres out,,, I dont know if a trailer would drop right in off it or not....I have a 21 foot plate boat and a 15 foot tinnie,,, I mite take the tinnie down for a run.... Thanx again..
