massive blue swimmer

gday raiders I had an RDO today and decided to go for a fish late this afternoon for a couple of hours in the harbour, all in all it was pretty quite but I managed a huge blue swimmer on a prawn! a new raider record at 112mm from front to back and the nippers outstretched were a whopping 83cm across! I took a photo with a spool of line for catch of the month!

Great Blue Swimmer mate! I just wanted to show mine off as well caught 3 years ago on the mighty Hawkesbury River on a bloodworm of all things! It felt like I was bringing up a brick from the bottom until it started to give me some curry when it saw my ugly melon :074:post-1300-077151400 1306992603_thumb.jpg

Any meat in it though, the last couple i have picked up have felt very light and have let them go....interesting to see whether it's full or not. mine were in sydney and water bit cold

That's one helluva blue swimmer crab tide'n'knots  not only absolutely worthy of a Fishraider record and congratulations on landing it. What a magnificent meal it's going to make.

Cheers

As long as the shell isnt soft they usually have a lot of meat in them.

If you turn the over and you see orangish bands running through the whites of their legs

this means the crab is just about moult and will be crammed full of meat

congrats on your record pete that must have brightened your day even better by line too

cheers mick

thought it was a lump of kelp at first but luckily I decided to get the landing net ready just in case it was a crab, the hook fell out of it when it landed on the floor of the boat! best lump of kelp I ever caught!

pete.
