New rear seat

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just finished building and installing my new rear seat for the boat

It has a 700 x 370 x 370mm esky come kill tank in the middle

and two storage compartments under the seating

The plywood was coated in west system epoxy resin inside and out

then carpeted in marine carpet had the seats trimed by a local guy

Sanfly Is the seat screwed to the floor or just loose.

A friend has something similar with velcro on the bottom. This way , he can move the seat to what ever position required & it "sticks" to the floor.

Also , it can be easily removed if required.

Hi Geoff

Ive got black non slip rubber under each end which they use in the back of utes

you can just see it in the pics if you look close at it

It seems to do the job although havnt tested it yet

But I might put some velcro under it just to make sure as I dont want to drill holes in it

On the week end Ill put a rule bilge pump in the esky part

I picked up a brand new one today for $15 off of gumtree still in the packet

the guy never got round to using it as he sold his boat .....

Cheers Steve

Nice job Sanfly. Have you thought about Flowcoating the inside of the kill tank?

Might just finish it off with a nice smooth lining.

Hi tuffy

I already asked the fibreglass place about the flowcoat and he said you carnt use it on epoxy resin

But said I can mix in some white or which colour tint I wanted in with the apoxy resin and paint that

on and it would do the job but I have not got enough epoxy left to finish the inside with colour

So in the end storage sections I just put some grey out door mats and left the esky part as is

Thanks for the idea anyway Cheers Sanfly

Looks like a top idea im looking at doing something similar how water proof are the storage boxes like after heavy rain ?

Hi

If you wanted it to be water proof you would have to have a raised lip around the opening

Or the water would seep in Last month got caught out in gale force winds and took heeps

of spray into the boat and didnt get any water in it

But if it was left in the rain Im sure water would seep under the seat but I keep my boat

under cover when not in uses any way

How much did the seat cushions set you back ? I am planning something similar and keen to know in advance the sort of dollars they charge.

Thanks

Great job by the way :)

Hi GaryO

They cost me $60 each

They used 12mm marine ply for the base and the foam is 75mm thick

plus a thin piece of dakron on top I think he said.

plus the vinyl is for out door / marine use

The lids are 500mm x 380mm

He is at Campbelltown
