[EASTERN SUBURBS] Bare Island - La Perouse

Recommended Posts

LOCATION: Bare Island, La Perouse

WHEN TO FISH: When seas are to the East or Nor East up to 1.75metres or light South to South East seas to 0.75

TIME: fishes best late afternoon early morning on either tide

Bare Island is a great spot producing groper drummer kings salmon squid bream trevally and its claim to fame is its blackfish.

A reasonably safe spot it can get crowded so take your manners. Cleats are a must here and it can be a slippery joint. As it is popular it pays to take your bait supplies including green weed /cabbage as this can be unreliable.

AVOID THE AREA IN ANY SOUTHERLY SWELLS ABOVE 1 METRE ESPECIALLY IDF THE BOMBORA IS WORKING AS THE SWELL HAS A TENDENCY TO CURL ALONG THE EASTERN FRONT AND SWEEP ACROSS THE ISLAND, THE VERY FRONT OF THE ISLAND IS EXCEPTIONALLY DICEY IN ANY SEA AND SHOULD ONLY BE FISHED IN VERY CALM CONDITIONS. CLEATS ARE A MUST!!!!!

Public transport is excellent, parking is plentiful but be early as the area is popular with scuba divers so it gets crowded, good phone reception and there are angel rings but these again are prone to vandilism sadly. Access t oall spots is easy and safe

AS AN ALTERNATE: fish the inside ledges in bigger seas adjancent ot he bridge or the ledges on the mainland opposite the island called the rubbish spill this is located at the western end of the parking area a very good spot ion rough weather and after heavy rain for luderick and drummer.

If the seas are really big head to Yarra Bay and fish the point there or off the beach for bream, the rocks adjacent to Conwong Bay on the eastern mainland side of the bridge are also good for bream and blackfish.

REMEMBER CHECK THE SEAS AND SWELL AND TIDES AVOID THE AREA IN TIDES ABOVE 1.6METRES AND SWELLS THAT ARE ADVERSE
