1960's Cannibal brown trout

Recommended Posts

Hi Raiders,

I thought I would post this photo of my Dad when he was around 16 years old.

He used to fish this small reservoir back where I grew up in the UK.

He would get stacks of Brownies on the spin rod, but all around the same 1kg size.

He knew there were some big ones in there after spotting a few.

After many years, he finally got one.

It weighed in at 5.5lb, and measured 70 plus cm.

As you can see it wasn't in top condition, and I'm sure if it was, it could have topped double figures.

They were cannibal the big ones in that reservoir. To this day my uncle still fishes there, but they stock it these days.

Back then they were all wild trout.

I wonder if there are any descendants of this one in there still?

after reading an old freshwater fishing magazine ive found a chart that fisheries put out on average weight of fish when released,

1yo = 300 grams

2yo = 800 grams

3yo = 2000 grams

seems they have a fast growth rate looks to be almost tripling in weight per year,

now im wondering if this growth continues at this rate (im guessing it would in a perfect environment)

4 and 5yo fish must be BIG
