Freespooling Livebaits for Marlin

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wondering what techniques people are employing to allow Marlin to take a livebait without feeling any drag. We simply run the line straight from the rod tip with the reel at minimum drag to stop the live bait pulling out any line. However last season we had a fair few half hearted takes which i can only attribute to the Marlin shying away from the drag pressure.

This season we are experimenting with release clips attached to the back of the boat and a ~15m belly in the line. In theory, it should give the fish enough time to inhale the bait naturally and the circle hook should find its way into the corner of the mouth.

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated as i am relatively new to fishing for Marlin.

cheers

if your running strait from the rod tip u can use a release clip from DUBRO,it is cable tied to your rod and you can adjust the tension of it to suit line thickness or how hard the livie pulls once it pulls out of the clip its strait to freespool then MARLIN ON!!!

cheers luke
