Fish ID ( Herring Cale)

Found an old photo today from a few years ago when my mates and I would throw bait in and see what we'd catch. Mate pulled this out off wasp head at Durras on the south coast, but looking at it I have no idea what it'd be.

Never eaten one but from all reports, nope better fish in the sea.
