GreyNurse Posted April 6, 2014 Share Posted April 6, 2014 Hobie (Hobart) Alter, surfboard maker and the creator of the Hobie Cat, whose name is now synonymous with the kayaks we all know and love, passed away last week aged 80. Hobie sold his company to Coleman in 1976, and his sons Hobie Jr. and Jeff carry on the family tradition, operating Hobie Designs. What a legacy to leave.
