Hi All,

Terrible fisherman hoping for some insights! XD

I don’t even think I had more than 1 bite on the last few outings combined.🤦‍♂️

Will be trawling through the Sydney land-based posts!

Cheers

Welcome to Fishraider Remote River Man. This is a great site and will be enhanced by your reports given that you are fishing a long way from where the majority of Members function. At least you and I share something in common, in that respect. I live in the Riverina (S/W NSW), also a long way from Sydney. I have made lots of really good friends on here. Your presence will bring another dimension to the forum. Enjoy. I will look forward to your reports. bn

Thanks, Neil... yeah, it's an interesting area for fishos up here. Kind of a borderland between southern and tropical species. We get snapper, tailor and winter whiting when the temperature drops and barra, mangrove jack and reef species firing up over summer. We're the southern limit of queenfish too. Plenty of creek systems to explore and a healthy supply of mackerel just offshore (I've even trolled for them on calm days from my kayak).

I shall aspire to a 101cm flatty PB like yourself - wow, that's a monster. Up in QLD, we have to give any duskies over 75cm back to the ocean (which is fair enough) but rest assured, any 70cm numbers are going straight into the beer batter :).

Hi all, new member based out of Port Stephens. I've been fishing pretty much for anything and everything for 50 years, but like the rest, still have heaps to learn every time I head out. Pretty sure this forum will help with that too.

I fish mainly for snapper in the winter and trout or bass in the summer, and 99.9% of the time with lure/fly.

Look forward to making a contribution here. Cheers Mat

Hi all,

Currently living and working in Singapore, as the Casino Surveillance Director at Resorts World at Sentosa.

Will be returning to Australia in November (subject to COVID and border permissions). In the final stages of buying a house in Sunrise Lifestyle Village at Port Stephens where I will semi-retire. My brother-in-law is driving up from Sydney to have a look at the complex next week as it's obviously not an option for my wife and I to get there ourselves and we will be purchasing sight unseen. We have a site on hold and subject to a good report back from brother-in-law, it will be deposit down and start building for a late year finish.

I'm a keen lawn bowler, although it's been a bit difficult here in Singapore, so will be looking at a good club to join and get back into it. Soldiers Point and Nelson Bay look to be the closest choices and I'm leaning towards Soldiers Point. Happy to hear thoughts of any bowlers on this board.

I've always really enjoyed fishing, but chances have been few and far between over the years. This will change when I retire and I intend to buy my first boat and hit the waters at Port Stephens. Looking at a Quintrex Cruiseabout 540 Pro at this stage. The bowrider appeals as I'm sure the grandkids will be keen to visit and I can get the funding okay from the Minister for War and Finances for a boat she can enjoy rather than a straight fishing boat. If I'm not on the right track here, I'm all ears. I won't be looking at a boat until I'm back home, so very early in the thoughts.

I'm currently digesting all the great information on this site and will continue to lurk before I move back to Oz at which time I will become a much more active member of the Fishraider community.

I'm also a keen follower of AFL, my bowls will tell you who I follow...

Looking forward to meeting some of the inmates here who fish Port Stephens.

Take care,

Bob

Welcome to the forum Bob. Hope your plans come to fruition and you get into fishing and Lawn Bowls back here in Oz. Plenty of talented anglers in the Port Stephens region so plenty of "homework" for you to research. Good luck with your plans , will look forward to reading your adventures down the track.

I am a keen Lawn Bowls player too and live in the Riverina where my main target species is Murray Cod (freshwater). I get about a bit and meet up with other Fishraiders when I can, usually to fish the salt. Cheers, bn

Welcome to Fishraider, Bob! My wife is from Singapore. We were supposed to be there this month for a family reunion. Thanks COVID. 😡 We live in Port Stephens. Currently at Corlette. I don’t bowl but I’ve had a beer or two at both Nelson Bay and Soldiers Point bowlos. 😉 The view from the Crows Nest room at Nelson Bay is spectacular. I played at a few open mics there. Soldiers Point is handy to us and we are members there. I don’t know much about Sunrise.

Big welcome to you @Bowler Bob

Plenty of people up in Port Stephens and I am sure you will meet one of our mods @Scratchie

Swordie and myself were bowlers but don't play anymore. I admin a page for that local club here in Sydney. We also have friends who are involved in Bowls Australia. Yell if you need any info.

I am the Community Manager of fishraider. You will find this community holds a wealth of information and members are a friendly lot (no divas here) Enjoy and look forward to some fishing reports in the future.

Nice choice of bowls ;)

Hi fellow fish raiders and raiderettes,

I'm completely new to fishing and have always wanted to try get into it, now with this COVID restriction its time I finally do. I'm based in Wolloughby and went to wet the line at Linley Point on the weekend without success.

Any advice to try get up to speed on shore fishing, I've been trolling the forums and been reading and watching videos online.

Thanks in advance for all the knowledge and help.

Wes
