mrsswordfisherman
A really great event. The weather was fabulous and we had 54 people registered (only 9 did a no show) I want to thank some special people: 4myson Sacha - this man helped us and several members over the weekend. He gave out pilchards to people that had run out. He helped us clean and take down all the stuff from the top deck after the breakfast. He also followed us back to the houseboat place and then went and got trolleys to put all our gear into, loaded them up and took them to our car. This would have added a couple of hours to his time. We sincerely thank you Sacha and Anthony and you now have a GOLD MEMBER badge Sacha for your assistance and community spirit Squishy - Mel thanks for putting your hand up to take over from Stewy and start our breakfast cooking off. Much appreciated and you now have a GOLD MEMBER badge Dalucius and MrDalucius- Lyn and Geoff who were crew on the mothership. Without them we would have cancelled the event. Those that attended can see that it is way to much for one or two of us to manage. These guys are already Gold Members and always show community spirit. By the way Lyn makes a mean pumpkin soup too!!! Scratchie - Jeff represents his family and our mod team at every event he can. He is always monitoring the forum to help posters and welcomes newbies. His young children are a credit to him and Jodie his wife. Brandon wins our Junior prizes often and as Swordie says "he always fishes hard and deserves it". Jeff ensured that the mother ship was able to secure a mooring in Pinta Bay otherwise we would have had to move the event to another area. Jeff is now the SENIOR MODERATOR and a badge goes on his profile Krause and HenryR - these legends paddled kayaks for kilometres in the dark and cold to join us to catch hairtail. A courageous effort and a new badge has been created for them MAN vs WILD AWARD Krause was the trailblazer fishraider member by catching a great hairtail, the first by a raider from a kayak. In honour of this we intend to start a new area in our records section for kayak captures and Krause will be first entry there. Way to go Nathan and Michael! PRIZE WINNERS WERE: 4myson - 1570 cms $500 Sydneyfisher12 runner-up 1470 cms - $100 Junior prize - 1400 cms Little Scratchie Jnr - $100 Best Bycatch - fredflathead with a beautiful snapper 42cms Other notable captures/mentions: NaClH2OK9 - pike eel aka hairtail, crab Welst - green toadfish MattKenny - tailor mrsswordfisherman - 2 decent hairtail witnessed by 21 boats and 2 kayaks in Jerusalem Bay Summer Kenny - hairtail fishing with her Dad and stayed out all night, great effort for a little girl fredflathead - hairtail caught on an anchor rope (who said you need a rod) Amkr - nothing again! Keep trying mate Pirate Flag for this year goes to JohnDory and his crew who we only saw at registration and at the end Scratchie - get your battery sorted please CaptainRats and Birdseye - keep the banana prank going with THE SWEENEY (something about shortsheeting a bed) A huge thanks to Harold, Mimi and Jeremy for making this event happen by providing the cash prizes and breakfast for all of us This event was also made special by the partnership with DPI and University of Western Sydney Hawkesbury. There were some 59 full hairtail handed in and 30 odd heads. These will be examined and tested and a paper will be published with a mention of the assistance of the members of the fishraider Hairtail Social 2016. Excellent work people!!! Breakfast was fun and delicious and thanks to all the cooks Finally the Hairtail records will be adjusted shortly to include the first 5 as usual. Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone. Scratchie
Donna, what a fantastic wrap up of the weekend! It's funny, because everyone that is there can post all they want but it still doesn't describe how awesome it is living there in that moment! The beautiful river, cliff surroundings, screams from raiders "I'm on", sitting there waiting for your turn, the banter between everyone and then finally "your on"! And knowing every raider is there wishing you the very best! It just doesn't get better than that! Except the fact my kids are by my side! That was the highlight of my trip! Thank you both Donna and stewy for the recognition you bestowed on me! I love this site and have made many friends because of it! You both truly need to sit back sometime and understand the community that you have both created! The comraderie that exists between raiders is something I've never experienced before in any situation. People willing to spend and give their time and knowledge to complete strangers just because they are Fishraiders! Now that is special! So, for all you good people out there reading this.......... See you next year! Cheers scratchie!!!

Jewhunter
Great write up Donna! I felt like I was there. Remember the 1st couple that were held? I vaguely do... I remember the Hairtail as being a mythical creature rarely caught. Not any more. Talk about coming a long way. You've had a lot of practice in organising these events & they just get bigger & better. Well done, & well done & thanks to all the helpers for their assistance & to Harold for sponsoring the event. I'll come down next year & crew the houseboat with you. It's been way too long! Cheers, Grant.

Brooker435
A great write up there Donna, thanks to everyone who made this great event possible. Congrats to all the winners!!!, I will be back next year but will need to plan a little better as I only decided to join the social at the very last minute. If only I had my tinny with me it would have made it easier to board the mothership, It was great to meet some of the members also including yourself & Stewy. Guest
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was the Fishraider Social to end all socials with so many raiders and so many hairtail caught. Donna had meticulously arranged every little detail from the catering to the mother ship and even my clothes hahahaha and its a credit to her organisational skills and that's why our socials go off without a hitch.......WELL DONE MRSSSWORDIE. Luck was with us as our group on the mother ship had to be re-organised on the mother ship as Lisa and Sean had to pull out at the last minute but fortunate our great friends and fishraiders Lyn and Geoff (Dalucius) came to our aid and without their help Donna and myself would have definitely struggled (THANKS SO MUCH YOU 2). The reports were coming thick and fast from days leading up to the social from Harold, Scratchie and Tag117 AND MY EXCITEMENT WAS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH (WELL NORMAL). Big thanks to Houseboats Afloat for getting our boat ready so quick as it only came in at 9am and we were at Jerusalem Bay earlier than lunchtime (thanks Jenny and Karen) Once again Harold and Scratchie scored us a nice mooring buoy and it took a lot of pressure off us that’s for sure (awesome fellas). Now the fun starts with raiders coming from everywhere by every means to register and with the fish on the bite everyone was eager to get amongst em. Lyn and Donna and Geoff were amazing measuring, registering and attending to everyone’s needs ...especially mine KING SWORDIE Friday arvo and night were good with plenty of fish caught and Team Scratchie getting their possession limit before midnight (bagged out) well done boys. The bigger fish were found in Jerusalem Bay but the numbers were in Waratah Bay. The fishing was great with plenty of banter between Harold’s boat Eeyore and the fishraider Polycraft. “What’s that Stewy, I can’t hear you as I am drying my hair after my HOT shower” yells Harold Grrrrrr next time I am bringing my towel and slippers over Harold! All day Saturday was spent catching livies and everyone got heaps of yakkas to supplement the tonnes of pillies we all had...well all except Jeff who did not bring enough. The uni expedition turned up with all manner of smarties aboard and I know they were because I didn't get past year 10 and cant count to ten without my shoes off. Saturday arvo I get the call they are on at 2.30 and I said “Come on Donna, lets go right now” and to my amazement she was in the boat before me and as soon as we arrived everyone was hooked up. Sunday dawned sunny and cool and plenty of fish came to the measuring mat and it topped off a great few days fishing. The breakfast was awesome once again and big thanks to our sponsor Harold from HBA learning centers who has supported us in a big way. You know when you have it right when nearly everyone returned for the Sunday breakfast and the excitement was at an all time high. I would also like to thank Sasha for his generosity in coming back with us for the drop off of all the gear as it saved so much time for us. Last but not all I would like to thank the fishraiders and their guests who all handled themselves with so much dignity and aplomb..give yourselves a big tap on the back. CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR
