In preparation to shift axle you want to mark the position of both axle slides on either side of the trailer as a reference point with a marker/pencil.Now hit the 4 u bolt nuts with penetrating spray and loosen them all sufficiently to allow you to shift the axle assembly back and forth.

The u bolts loosened a little.

Now jack your trailer up one side at a time from under the axle as close as you can get to the leaf spring and place axle stands under the side rails on your trailer allowing sufficient ground clearance between the trailer tyre and the floor as shown.
