crusher87
Got this wahoo at south west rocks today. Got a couple of yellowfin and lost a 10-15kg Spanish at the boat. Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid the sharks? We were downrighing small mac tuna down around 20 metres but kept getting big sharks. Should we be keeping them on the surface? The Poacher
There are a lot of sharks in the area - we have had good fish eaten by Tigers at the boat etc. Not sure how to avoid them. Where were you? North, south or at the Jail? Steve
Yowie
Shotgun for the sharks ??? Very hard to avoid when there is a free feed waiting for them. Good work getting that wahoo on board, nice fish.
crusher87
Yeah I thought it was a bit of a stupid question! Just thought we could maybe set the downrigger a bit higher in the water column and it might make a difference. Also got a 10-15kg mackerel to the boat and it ran under the boat and got busted off. Farvos
Great catch boys. Silly question but do you cross a bar getting out of SWR and if so is it nasty? Want to get up there for a fish soon
crusher87
Yeah we go out across the bar. Be careful going out on a run out tide with a north easterly swell and/or wind. How big is your boat? We have a 6.5m centre cab and the worst day was a 10 knot nor'easter with a 1.8 easterly swell with a run out tide and it was as bad as I would go out in. All other days were fine even when the swell was 2 metres from the south and a 20 knot southerly. You would also want to make sure the river is clean because we had a bit of grief with the dirty water.
