Lowrance hook 7

I have a lowrance elite 7 hook with chirp that works pretty well although lately  it has been losing the depth reading at speed,  which doesnt worry me too much , however when i slow down it gives me ridiculous readings  which does worry me. As well , when this happens i dont get the sonar picture back. Any ideas  ?

Is it giving you really deep readings? My Humminbird does that sometimes... the transducer keeps flipping up. I’ll have to fix it down.

Nup. Really shallow readings. I just read somewhere that i should take it off the auto sensitivity setting so will try that next time im out.

I would check to make sure your transducer hasn`t moved as when travelling at speed any turbulence will cause trouble. you could also try moving your transducer down a bit more.

G'day Brian, check that your power source and all connectors and cables are in good condition. As has been mentioned the transducer could be moving under speed. Outside of that there's really only the settings which could need checking / re setting. Good luck bn

I have a hds5  and on auto it reads crap....but turn to manual depth  with manual sensitivity and its a whole new ball game..rick

I’m going to try that on my Humminbird, too. I assume it’s on auto. ?

had the same issue with my HDi elite when i updated it, found that the fishing type was set to shallow water changed over to general fishing and the issue went away

the lowrance have a fishing mode in settings  for saltwater freshwater  deep  shallow  trolling...also check your power source as a voltage drop gives whacky readings on hds5  don't have radio n pumps on same loom..rick

my hds gen 2 does this at times....i just turn it off then back on and the problem goes away

Thanks everyone.  Have gone to manual settings  and all went well today. I also realised that i had downscan frequency set on 455 khz not 800 khz although not sure if that would cause my problem.

Bonus today was catching 8 nice bream .

I had the same problem with my hook 7 sounder , would loose depth reading at speed . i found using the general fishing mode under setting to fix this and it has been great since .
