G'day Bryan, you are quite right (I believe) in saying that Octopus and Circle hooks are different. Circle hooks are curved inward towards the shank, Octopus hooks (while similar) do not have the curve that bends back in towards the shank. Circle hooks (apparently) you just let the fish hook itself, usually in the corner of the mouth. Other hooks need to be set when the fish has mouthed the bait and hook. I do not use circle hooks and probably never will. I don't know a lot about them and maybe somebody will correct me if what I have stated is incorrect. Keep at it mate, it's a very enjoyable pastime. I was thinking about how they’re similar in shape but you’re right that octopus hooks don’t fully set themselves. Good catch :)
