Koalaboi
A mate caught a fish like this on cunje on the south coast of NSW. He said it appeared greener than the accompanying photo. Any info on it including if good to eat etc would be good. Ta, KB
0 Blackfish
Haven't had much internet access in the last week, so I'm not sure how that happened. Maybe autocorrect. ??? or maybe crap typing. But you both right. Girella zebra.
0 xerotao
Certainly looks like a zebra fish. Just very dark in colour
0 Blackfish
I would say Zebrafish "Gisela zebra" as well. Colour variation could be just the environment the were in. Take Luderick for example. From Charcoal to Bronze to a very light colour.
0 Volitan
The reference book Sea Fishes Of Southern Australia says under zebra fish: ’the base colour varies from silvery grey in life to dark brown after death’ ’fins yellow to brownish’ and, intriguingly: ’occasionally forms hybrids with Easter Rock Blackfish in the region between Eden (NSW) and Wilson’s Promontory in Vic’ so the colour seems ok for a dead or stressed zebra fish, but I think there is a small chance it’s one of those hybrids. 0 Volitan
Sorry, forgot. The same book rates zebra 2 out of 5 for eating. Luderick are 3 out of 5. Edited May 4, 2018 by Volitan
