Kingfish off the beach

While fishing on the beach a few nights ago I was thinking a bit more variety would be nice.

so a question just out of curiosity. Has anyone ever caught a kingfish while beach fishing? 

Never done it myself or even seen it, which seems a bit odd - I know they’re reef fish but they do get around. Especially the small ones.

I have got more Jews Salmon Tailor beach fishing but no Kings maybe because I was not fishing for them but I cant see why you would not get one .

I don't see them as being a viable target off the beach to be honest.

I'm sure people have and there are probably beaches out there where it is viable, but for most beaches its not something i'm aware of being a successful way to target them.

I caught one off north Narrabeen during a comp years ago. I have seen them down here on the south coast behind schools of salmon as I've headed out through surf diving but these days even finding salmon in decent numbers is rare.

I have caught kingfish off the beach as by catch.

I wouldnt specifically target them off the beach but if i had to, id pick a spot/gutter closest to rocky ends (assuming terrain like most sydney beaches).

not saying it doesnt happen but beaches arent really the place i would be targetting them, kings generally need something to hold them, bait, structure, etc
