Port Stephens winter reds- whose interested?

Recommended Posts

@Scratchie - I’ll help out with the sausage sizzle etc. if I can but at this stage, I don’t know what’s happening with me at the moment. Probably won’t know until very close to the event. I’m really hoping I’ll be available.

Plenty of time to organise yourself Baz! Thanks for the offer to help!

Just couldn’t image you having any dramas Baz! 😂

Please count me in.  Sounds like a brilliant plan. I will also have room for 1 extra raider on my boat if anyone needs a ride. Pm me if interested.

Hi Scratchie and fellow raiders, I'm a newby and this is my maiden post so be gentle!

Count me in as I've always wanted to fish Port Steven's but the old boat wasn't up to it. Keen to get the new Signature 602F out there earning its stripes.

Looking forward to learning heaps and meeting some fellow raiders.

Booked and paid my accommodation , Admiral Nelson Motor Inn, not far from the ramp, It has a spare sofa bed IF someone is desperate for somewhere to sleep but Parking may be a problem.

IF half the guys show up that have said they would, it will be a huge meeting and I am looking forward to catching up with you all.

Id be keen if someone is willing to offer me a berth on their vessel.

As a trade off for the trip & fuel I could offer free basic share accommodation at my family's 2bdr unit at dutchies.

I get the double you get the single bunks 😁

Have all my own gear & will bring burley/bait although I prefer to use lures & SP's or get live bait.

Would be great to meet up with you blokes for starters 😊

Just a bump on this offer.

Still looking for a birth on someone's boat for the Saturday & possibly Sunday if your keen in lieu of free accommodation for Friday & Saturday night at my family's apartment, will save you 2-3 hundred  $$ Id say?

Have 2 single bunk beds available.

Hell I'll even supply lunch on the boat, as long as your not a vegan 🤣

Not that we will have much time but its 5 minutes drive to Little beach oat ramp, 5 minutes walk to NB Marina & town centre plus having a couple of beers on the balcony as night falls is quite nice as well.

 NB.thumb.jpg.9d484d587aaf99f8290b83a8d398438d.jpg

Linen supplied, cooking facilities available (again not that there will be much time for that either) etc.

Just send me a PM if your keen & we can discuss further.

Cheers

Adrian

Looks like I also will be needing a ride on a boat, circumstances arise that I won't be bringing a boat with me.

@frankS @kingie chaser

Have a look back through the thread and some raiders offered spots. Send them a pm!

And don’t stress, we’ll get you on a boat! 👍

Thanks Jeff, yes I have seen those but as I am giving up 2 or 3 days of work for the trip Im trying to make it a cheaper weekend for myself & also for another raider if possible 👌

If my offer of free accommodation for a berth doesn't pan out then I would still like to bum a ride with someone & pay my share for fuel cost of course!

Just though it would be a win win for both of us?

Yeah, I can certainly take 1 person and am happy to, if I’m there. I haven’t jumped in yet with an offer as I can’t commit at this stage for a number of reasons. My work roster for June isn’t out yet. I don’t normally fish weekends due to work and when I do get one off, I usually spend it with my wife, even if it is doing work around the house!  I was  expecting to be having some surgery but I can’t even get in to see the surgeon for the initial consultation until late June, so that excuse may be ruled out at least. That’s one disadvantage about living in Port Stephens - it seems there is a long wait to see specialists in Newcastle! In Sydney, I could get in within weeks, often within days! Just beware, if you come with me, it’s an open boat and it gets cold 🥶 brrr!

Well I dont profess to be an expert but I do enjoy trying to 'fool' fish with artificials like SP's, jigs, hard bodys or similar.

Fishing open water ising any of these can be tricky & conditions need to suit.

Current/wind/drift rate/water depth can make it hard & sometimes your just better of bottom bouncing with a patenoster & bait but I do like to test the waters 1st.

With SP I like to carry a variety of sizes & colors plus some glows as my theory is some species are more attracted to certail colours over others.

I usually carry a range of jigheads up to 2oz for stronger currents.

I prefer to fish SP's while at anchir but still catch plenty of fish on the drif, you just have to change your cast to being forward of the drift to allow it to sink to the botton, if you drift is to quick then I carry a sea anchor/chute to slow the boat down.

If your not doing to good then change it up for another colour or even put on a micro jig or even an occy style lure.

To me there are no rules or anything set in stone so its about being able to change things in the fly which is easy enough when you probably carry 3 times the amount ofgear than your actually going to use 😂

Hey Scratchie, I am happy to sponsor the event with supplying some printed tee shirts for all who turn up.

So knowing a confirmed date would be good and getting access to a logo and details to put on the tees.

The offer is there if you want.

Cheers

The Skipper ( Paul )

That’s a very generous offer Paul but this is not an official fishraider social event. More of a catch up to go fishing 😉

We all need an excuse to go fishing! 😝

I know its not an official sponsored event but I recon a Tshirt memento of the weekend would be great.

Would it still be possible for those interested to do something unofficial at a reasonable price?

Not sure if enough people would be interested to make it viable but I cant help think those sorts of things are great timeless keepsakes.

You know like when you went to see you fav band at some RSL back in the 80's or 😏

Is there still time to throw something together @the skipper if its not going to be against the forums policies, eg without official logo's??

Why not make it an official Fishraider event ? we have enough interest !!. We have a few prizes, we have venue's and dates, what's stopping it from becoming an official event ?. I think a T shirt to remember the event is a great suggestion. I would buy one, and IF Paul wants to supply them at a reduced price then it's a win win situation for all. Just my opinion IF there is some reason why it can't be made an official event then that's OK we will still have a great time meeting like minder fisho's and a chance to catch some fish.

To answer in short, “insurance”.  And permission from the owners.

I only put up this idea as I’ve had a few people say they should come up!

I never expected the response it has received. So thank you all.

Regardless of “official” or not! Let’s go fishing!

Yeh I agree to keep it unofficial & keep it uncomplicated & simple.

You don't really want to get into a whole legal thing if something goes wrong(not that it will)

I am on an aussies 4x4 forum & I believe from talk I have read that people who are in legit 4x4 clubs & that pay dues get cover through the club on events/organised trips but then people who aren't club member show up to an organised event & something goes wrong like they roll or damage their vehicle they  start trying to blame said club for taking them on 'to  hard a track' for their skill level.

Unfortunately we have gone down the USA path in this day & age, to many people try to sue for something like slipping on onions in a Bunnings store 🙄

To many minefields in my opinion, KIS...…...

Saturday morning:

Meet at Little Beach boat ramp @5am where I’ll cook up a sausage sandwich and juice. We’ll leave at first light so it’s a bit safer for first time travellers.

This also will give everyone the opportunity to catch up again if you missed the night before.

If everyone then wants to come back to the ramp between 4-5pm where we’ll put on another sausage sandwich and maybe a coldie or soft drink!

Here, everyone gets to show off there prized catch and maybe a prize for the winner!

Sunday: totally up to you if you want to head back out but I will throw on a late breakfast at shoal bay boat ramp @10am.

All in all, it should be a great weekend and fantastic to meet up with many like minded people.

Scratchie, I love a snag sandwich as much as the next guy but seeing that I am a chef I think I should throw my hat into the ring so I am also more than willing & happy to bring along another tasty treat or 2 for the gang for back at the ramp.

My pulled pork shoulder with Cajun spiced slaw & my own double smoked Bbq chilli sauce usually goes down a treat at a party  Just need some good local bread rolls!

As we get closer we can confirm numbers for quantities.

Don't know about you guys buy I am certainly getting excited about the weekend & the fishing :1clap:

I want one of those monster snaps 😈
