A few snaps

Recommended Posts

Been exploring deeper into the bush after finding the quolls recently. Also the lake in front of our house seems to get an influx of cormorants, cootes and pelicans feeding on an abundance of small fry this time of the year. Late afternoons the pelicans rest up at the waters edge where I paddle my daughter in the canoe for a few photo's, sometimes I get chance to grab a few shots myself, like these!!!

Quoll poo 😁

Great photos as always. I have to ask a question to you and any member that wishes to comment. Pelicans are designed to carry heaps of excess fish in their beaks, gods design, Now my question, How long has it been since ( if ever ) you have seen a Pelican with fish stored in it's beak ? I for one after 72 years of frequenting water shore lines have never seen it.

I know the answer to this ! Who else does ?.

My understanding is the beak is for catching by creating a large wide scope as they plunge the beaks under the water, not for storing fish.

Despite their size, the average pelican weighs in at around 2.5 kg and unlike the cormorants that seem far more intent on feeding longer periods of the day, a pelican feeds and rests with a far more laid back attitude.
