Paint for a boat hull - fibreglass

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I hope people can advise.

I've been to RTM, Whitworth, and emailed norglass paints.

I'm going to repaint my boat but would rather NOT use 2 pack.

I've been informed that a "normal" marine enamel would still do the job.

Has anyone used any other paints apart from 2 pack.

Dave.

Need to be a bit more specific, like what sort of boat glass or aluminium, , new or previously painted, going to spray or brush?

Have painted a couple using auto Lacquer then clear over the top coat, glass just use undercoat then top coat but alloy if you go to bare metal it needs an etch primer to dig into the alloy to get a grip then undercoat then top coat.

Whatever you use please use appropriate breathing equipment. I can't breath now thanks to years of spray painting.

PS Best place to buy from is " A C E paint supplies " PM me if you want contact details.

Maybe but getting a quote would be interbeing if you don't have any of the gear to paint with like compressor, paint gun etc plus the price of marine paint as well.

True that. Probably same cost as near a small car, was last quoted a few years back for that, over $2000.

I can borrow a spray gun and compressor and paint including primer and top coat should be about $200 ish mark or so.

It's 8 foot long boat

But thanks for the suggestion.

I'd not wrap it myself though....

Yeh I can think of better ways of spending 2K, like a minn Kota or similar.

I've been wanting to repaint my Quintrex sportsman for years & make some changes but the biggest problem for me is a location to do it.

Good luck anyway & keep us posted
