Yes Posted December 12, 2019 Share Posted December 12, 2019 Hi all, I'm looking for a second spin rod used out of a small tinny in estuarys. Biggest fish I target are flathead... Generally use metal lures on 6-8lb braid. Currently have a shimano Zodias UL270... Paired with stradic FL 2500 HG... I love the Zodias... But was wondering if I could get away with something shorter and in two piece? Would be keen to try something other than shimano, but would be happy to stay brand loyal. Stino Posted December 12, 2019 Share Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) I’m with you on the zodias, I run the med/light with a CI4 stradic 1000, and an med/heavy baitcast with a 151 curado dc in the estuaries, the only other use and highly recommend are the Shimano Terez range, I have 4 now. With a 10-20lb 7” married upto CI4 4000, this rod comes with me also but I sits there lonely as I can’t put down the zodias’s. Plus Terez all 1 piece ....... so my advice is useless to you! Lol Have a look at the Shimano Maikuro range, they have a heap of 2 piece and many size options and I’ve heard only good feed back about them, I have a Maikuro med/light jig rod and it is so far proving to be an unbreakable beast, super light and awesome value averaging around the $100 mark, if there spin range performs the same I’d be 😊 Edited December 12, 2019 by Stino Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can buy a reasonable rod and reel combo for less than $100 at a shop or other specialist tackle stores. 2 piece rod and 6 pound mono on the reel does me. Probably not what you are looking for, but no need to spend big dollars on fishing gear. Then again, I have been fishing for about 60 years, and still use handlines in various locations. But there is certainly a huge difference in terms of feel and performance between my Zodias and my cheaper end shimano rods. Whether that translates to more fish, overall I'd say no, with the odd exception. But the enjoyment of a really smooth reel and the crisp action of a great rod is worth the price, it just adds to the enjoyment of fishing. Even switching between the Ci4 and the FL reel I now feel a big difference in terms of smoothness and line retrieval. But as I say, I don't believe I'll catch more fish because of it. You also have the ultra light option like your current rod if that is what you prefer. Its a decently priced rod in that its not overly expensive but still a nice rod to use. Don't think they had the Bullseye name - cannot check now as they are in my mother's boatshed. Have used them for years, and they suit me for throwing nippers and plastics.
