Have to get in touch to see if his house was taken or not. Good thing is he is 1 k from Cobargo itself on a property with not a lot of bush around it so I think his house and his sons 2 doors down the road would be OK. One side of Wallarah Creek was on fire, then it turned on to Birdwood Ave wiped out two houses, next thing the Southerly hit and it was on for young and old. Then Wyee caught fire. I went up to Bunnings at Lake haven in the arvo and heard some bloke say it was started by some kids bonging on in the bush. 🤬 Bloody shocking if that’s the truth. I am on their community page and these folk have dusted themselves off and got back to business already. The mateship and ways they are helping each other is extraordinary. JimT Posted January 2, 2020 Share Posted January 2, 2020 (edited) Attached is a shot from my Mums Bridge Motel in Batemans Bay on New Years Eve. Motel is OK except there was no power or Communications for a while and most businesses were closed because they either had run out of supplies or could not service customers anyway. A convoy of fuel tankers were escorted into BB today so people could get some fuel to be able to leave as has been requested by authorities. Fri and Sat are going to be a couple of bad days again. The more the merrier, putting dollars through the local economies will help them rebuild and continue on. Donations to appropriate charities will help to a point but supporting the local businesses puts money back into the local populations pockets which in turn will be put back into local businesses and so on. Already put the fire plan into action and set the sprinklers up for the roof and yard. Luckily we're 150m from the bush and will only have to defend against ember attack I believe, (new home so not sure what to expect). Hopefully the wind will have more north than west in it. We're all thinking of all those in danger Thanks Waza. Looks like we've dodged a bullet with the forecasts overnight changing winds from NW to NE and so far that appears to be the case. Pity though, that some other poor bugger will most likely cop it. Just hoping this rain forecast for Monday is enough to slow the fires down, but I doubt it.
