Going over maximum rod cast weight specifications while bottom bouncing

Hi guys I am wondering if going over cast weight specifications will affect a rod while bottom bouncing? I have a rod that is rated for 60 -120g cast weight and I am wondering if it were possible to use 12oz sinkers (approx 350g) without damaging the rod while bottom fishing. I ask this as I bought the rod for dual purpose as a bottom bouncing/ jigging rod.

Thanks

Hi Edogz, I'm by no means an expert on rod design but I believe you should be fine. The cast weight is based on the high forces generated during casting... Bottom bouncing is more similar to fighting a fish and you would be hoping to be pulling things greater than 350g from the depths :)

I think you'll be fine bottom bashing. Its not like casting.

If you are really worried, get yourself a cheap FG rod like a Jarvis Walker Black queen

I use one of them with a 16oz on it sometimes.

Thanks boys for the response. I am fishing a few km off north head Sydney Harbour.. I might considering using an 8oz next time I head out.

I'm definitely not using these weights for jigging, just whilst bottom fishing.
