Do you have a favourite?

Hi Raiders,

I have acquired a few rods over the years, but this one is probably my favourite. I won it in an online auction for about $40 a few years back.  It's very light and it has a great action.  At the time I called it a Snyderglas 2 wrap 144BF, just recently I removed the butt cap revealing the actual model number C144BF. It has caught heaps of fish in the past, love got to start using it more often.

Does anyone else have a favourite piece of gear?

Hi Ryder great rod and fantastic it's still in good nick.

I have a pretty big collection of tackle and my favourite piece is a Shakespeare 2499 spinning reel, which used to be the worlds smallest, Only held about 160 yards of thin 4 lb mono and 220 of 2 lb Damyl Steelpower- which used to be the worlds finest diameter line.

Original one was stolen, but after a really long search over many months, found one on ebay in USA.

Sorry for no photo- it's in storage currently

I like a fast taper action for Snapper fishing, and one of my favourites was an "off the shelf" Shimano Rod (forget the model) Beastmaster something, but I loved that rod, had a US made Spinfisher on it, unfortunately it was stolen years ago from my garage, never could find another one, but it would have been discontinued decades  ago now, still get a bit misty eyed when I think about it.

My favourite at the moment is my Daiwa Bluebacker 99 rod. Such a light rod in the hand with AGS guides and matched with a Daiwa Morethan 3012H reel.

Overkill for beach spinning, but such a pleasure to fish with,

Thats a really nice looking setup.

This is my favourite combo that I was given by @luderick -angler its a snyder glas 10ft 6in blackfish rod with 14 runners on it accompanied  with a really soft action and along with that a Alvey 475CP that is smooth as butter with 8lb  Dango Wax float line. I was also given a few floats and 200 hooks in the mustad 540 sizes 6-8 beak pattern. I finally have that specialised blackfish I so badly wanted and it works flawlessly I can't believe I got given such good gear! Anyways heres a picture of the rod and reel:

More than 50 years ago, I bought my first rod (a big change from hand lines) a bright green 6 foot rod (cannot remember the brand now) solid glass, wippy and heavier than today's hollow rods. Caught my first jewie on it. (still like hand lines)

Daiwa hyper 3kg and Stradic fl 2500 spooled with Daiwa Grand J braid. It's only new but its the nicest feeling setup and it can catch pretty much anything smaller than a metre. Which is the main reason I like it. If I could only keep one rod I own it wold be that or my Saragosa, Terez 100 lb setup.

Alvey reel on Ugly rod on a kayak. I  just leave it in the back vertical rodholder and then paddle or drift until the fish alarm loudly wakes up warning that the fish is on the line and waiting , 1:1 winching power, any-time drag adjustment and zero worries abour water damage to reel or the rod angle, just a fun of fighting the fish.

Similar to Green hornets setup that it is a seabass setup, main difference for this, it is Shimano and also this one is probably slightly heavier, either way it’s good fun fishing with this

Rod: Shimano Exsence Genos Wild Contact S100MH/r
Reel: Shimano Vanquish 5000hg

Line: Shimano Tanatoru8 PE2

Since it’s light setup I can use it for both normal lure fishing but also squid jigs (although not ideal for egi but allows me to not worry about bringing out more than one setup)
