Read the other thread about the place, the ledge everyone fishes is great, low, flat and deep water at your feet, that's why everyone fishes there, but, as I pointed out, it's very shape makes it a death trap for the unwary.

Yeh I know that spot mate, just unsure if there is a less dicey spot to redirect people to when the sea is big.

You can fish on the Northern side, but it's just shallow boulders, barren bare rocks, plus in the summer the wind is in your face. We used to use a little inflatable boat and row across to the Island and fish there, camp there for the night and fish the next morning, damn Penguins and Mutton birds drive you nuts, squawking all night.

Wondering if there are any experienced Rock Fishers among those involved with the meeting . . .

If it saves a life it will have done some good.

Randwick Council ran a bunch of Rockishing education sessions funded by the State Govt (I believe) and had Alex Bellisimo and from memory a rep from RFA (Malcolm Poole?) do presentations.

Was worth attending.

Yes, it was. Alex was sharing a lot of intetesting stuff (except his secret spots - to my dissapointment 😭) and answered questions, and also free PFDs at the end.

The room was packed (at least in my session) - however there were  not many people of cultural background that was mainly listed in Randwick rockfishing report.

I would say - it is better to organize such events with the involvement of local tackle stores where those people live and shop.

Interesting report written this week.

83% people who died weren't wearing life jackets. Half the deaths were people with an Asian background and weren't born in Australia. The report also said 25% of rock fishermen were unable to swim.

Wear a life jacket and learn how to swim if you live in Australia.

Interesting stats.

Do you have a link to the report? Apologies if I missed it.

Interesting paper- rockfishing death stats dont quite match the RLSS stats but they are near enough- i think that some kind of statistical link to weather conditions would increase the depth of the picture and understanding. Most deaths are caused by wash ins- probably a strong link to weather and folks ability to read the sea .
