My dad was a 1st world war veteran. Born England 1894 migrated to Australia when war broke out to join Australian army, sent to France where he copped shrapnel in the leg, sent to Hospital in England patched up and sent back to France with different unit where he was shot in the neck with machine gun fire, sent back to England patched up again then sent back for 3rd time where he seen the war to an end. Came back to Australia where he finally passed away in 1960 at the age of 66 two weeks after retiring. I was 1 day off turning 14 when he passed away . I got exemption from school VIA Legacy and started full time employment two weeks later.
