Great photos, here are a few from my new backyard after moving to Tamworth earlier this year from the Central Coast!

This is the view from my backyard that I get from nature most days!

There is some amazing country up this way - this is Apsley Falls!

Why go to the footy when you can watch the Cutting Horse Championships!

I don't miss the crowded boat ramps on the coast and you never know what you'll find on the ramp!

The scenery out on the water is amazing, which is a good thing as I persevere with catching cod after a lifetime of catching flatties and bream!

 

... and after a long session casting for cod, its fun to sightcast for carp with unweighted SwimZs on bream gear!! 🙂

on another note i recon my EX Brother-in-law would have been at those cutting comps.

Beach at sunset, caught some salmon of the gutter.

the sea eagles lair. It swooped down a couple of times for my salmon. It ended up cutting my line and taking my sinker. Sinker was taken of the wing and it flew away. It returned shortly and resumed watching me and another fisho.

Fantastic post Steve. I didn't realise that you were in the country these days. How's the Peel River going? I used to fish up that way a long time back, mainly the dams (Split Rock, Keepit, Copeton, Pindari). Never tried any sort of lure fishing for Carp...looks like it would be good fun on lighter gear. I must look into it. The Murrumbidgee is still running a banker, so I haven't done much Cod fishing this year at all.

Thanks Neil - we decided to retire to Tamworth to follow my daughter (and now grandkids) - she took a teaching job up here about 5 years ago so we were frequent visitors. Funnily enough, my wife and I both spent periods of our childhood in Tamworth due to parents working here so I always say every-one has a bit of tamworth in them, and if you don't think you do, you just haven't found it yet!!

The Peel is in great shape with plenty of water, I'll take a few photos next time I'm wandering along the river. Chaffey and Keepit are both at 100% and Split Rock is over 70% so there is plenty of water but still a lot of recovery needed after the fish kills from the drought a few years back.

I started fishing for the carp as something to do after a few hours of casting for cod from first light and used 3lb braid / 3lb leader but have upsized now to 10/10 after a few bustoffs getting them out of the weed and spindly snags they like to lay around in. My biggest so far is 68cm and I've heard stories of metre long carp in Split Rock - bring it on I say!

I hope that you and the family make the most of where you live. Great city is Tamworth and when conditions are right the fishing is A1 in the region. Be nice if we could get the rivers and dams at about 50-60%, fishing/access would be fabulous.

Yeah it is, lived there all my life, bought the family home many years ago, could never afford to live there otherwise,  very expensive real estate now. That lake entrance is a very popular spot for families during summer, the beach fishing is OK, rock fishing is good and diving/spear fishing is great too. My grandkids love having a "sleepover" during the summer, they swim and fossick around all day.

The main reason that I started this post was that there was a definite "slowing down" of post / content on the site. I thought it would provide a SHORT stopgap till things picked up and we could all enjoy reading each others posts. Alas, that has not happened for me. The Murrumbidgee is still flooded and about to be even worse affected in a little while. With the dams precariously at 100% levels, every (potential) bit of rain requires the authorities to send down mega amounts of water. All of this ends up going out to sea south of Adelaide. The consequence is that the fishing is impossible. ENOUGH WHINGEING!

So time for a bit of action. I am heading to Sydney in 4 weeks time. Two of my late wife's cousins are reaching the ripe old age of 60...so it's party time, and fishing time. I need to get into some therapy, fishing therapy, that is.

Most of you would know that I love my native fishing here in the Riverina. I have had many fantastic days enjoying the peaceful environment that the river provides. To that end I'm going to reinvigorate this thread with some photos of what the river CAN OFFER, so here goes. bn

I can only look forward to December when, hopefully, a new Cod season sees the river back to some semblance of what it should be... PARADISE.

No mate I haven’t moved as yet but I do a couple of gigs each year up NW Australia and that was my back yard for a while. It’s a bit of a second home.

I just realised that my last statement in this recent post has me looking forward to December (Cod opening). That got me thinking that this has probably been one of the worst years since 2015. Probably only caught about 40 Cod in the entire year to date, no Yellas, and few Carp. Hardly a year to remember! At least the irrigation channels are filled again so a spot of Carp fishing will have to suffice.
